The Travelling Intern Programme: Meet Our Travelling Interns

Chris Stevens

Age: 24

Home town: Near Exeter in Devon, UK.

Where are you travelling?: Where am I not?! I’m in Ecuador now, then heading to Asia for three months, a quick stint in Australia before heading to New Zealand.

What are you most looking forward to?: Board short surf sessions!

Random fact about Chris: I once took part in a nudist documentary to fund my travels.

Rusja Foster (also known as Roo)

Age: 23

Home town: London.

Where are you travelling?: On this trip I’ve already visited Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia & Singapore and now I’m in Australia, then it’s on to New Zealand, Fiji and finally the USA.

What did you study at uni?: I studied Film at University College Falmouth in Cornwall.

What are you most looking forward to?: Sailing the Whitsundays, skydiving in Queenstown, road-tripping across the states... I could go on!

Random fact about Roo: I’m the biggest Apple fan-girl/geek you’ll ever meet.
 

Jade Johnston

Age: 26

Home town: British Columbia.

Where are you travelling?: Up the East Coast of Australia before heading to Asia via Papua New Guinea.

What are you most looking forward to?: Meeting the locals - my idea of the Pacific Islands includes a lot of images of pre-packaged resorts. The problem with these is that you often find yourself quite cut off from the “real world”. I want to make sure this does not happen to us when we visit the Pacific Islands, by making sure we spend time in areas where local people congregate.

Random fact about Jade: I hate seafood and the thought of touching even a prawn terrifies me.

Richard Francis

Age: 23

Home town: Swansea, Wales.

What did you study at uni?: And where did you study? English Literature and Ancient History at
Swansea University.

Where are you travelling?: South east Asia and eastern Europe.

Random fact about yourself: My favourite beer is Ožujsko Pivo from Croatia, but I can’t get it in the
UK (feel free to send me some!).

Felix Tracey

Age: 18

Home town: Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

Where are you travelling to?: I’m doing an overland trip from the UK to Senegal, travelling through France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and of course Senegal.

What are you most looking forward to?: Getting out to the Sahara, and hopefully doing some wild camps out there.

Random fact about yourself: I’ve only had a driving licence for seven months! (But did pass first time!…)

Emily Whiting

Age: 25

Home town: Leicester

What did you study at uni? And where did you study? I studied physics at Manchester followed by a PGCE at Loughborough

Where are you travelling? All around the world! Specifically, Kenya-Tanzania-Malawi-Zambia-Zimbabwe-Botswana-Namibia-South Africa-Swaziland-Singapore-Malaysia-Indonesia-Australia-NZ-Cook Islands-Los Angeles

What are you most looking forward to? My Africa tour and the jungle in Sumatra—bit of a nature boff!

Random fact about yourself: I’ve ridden an ostrich.

Michael Andersson

Age: 22

Home town: Örebro, Sweden.

What did you study at uni? And where did you study?:  Have not got around to it yet, travel too much!

Where are you travelling?: Japan, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand

What are you most looking forward to?: I have to say Bali because they have got cheap massages!! Get some well deserved rest.

Random fact about yourself: I'm too tall for Japan, hit my head in buses, supermarkets, the metro, everywhere! I’m 1.93m. I live on a farm in Sweden, we got cows! And now I got a cold too!

Anja Madvani

Age: 22

Home town: East Layton (most definitely not a town!)

What did you study at uni? And where did you study? I studied Music at Huddersfield University, t’was a grand time.

Where are you travelling? New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and India.

What are you most looking forward to? A serious lack of rain, caving, bungee jumping, glaciers, meeting new people and hearing their stories, trying every type of food I can get my greedy mitts on and drinking as much interesting tea as possible.

Random fact about yourself: I’m half Indian, was born in Germany, have a Russian name and have spent 99.9% of my life in good ol’ Yorkshire.
